香港體育記者協會自1988年成立，是國際體育記者協會(AIPS)及亞洲體記聯盟(ASPU)的成員，亦是香港唯一的體育傳媒工作者組織，會員人數超過一百五十人，包括：來自香港各大電視台、電台、報章、雜誌、網頁以及通訊社的體育新聞工作者。
本會成立的目的是： 1. 團結本地體育傳媒工作者，捍衛會員權益。2. 提高體育傳媒工作者的專業形象，鼓勵及要求會員信守新聞從業員專業操守。
3. 聯繫世界各地體育記者協會，為會員提供更多國際體壇以及採訪資訊。
4. 作為各體育組織、機構與傳媒間的溝通橋樑，擔任顧問的角色提供專業意見，讓會員在採訪報道中獲得 最佳的配套，更有效地推廣體育運動。
本會成立以來，舉辦過大小不同的活動，除了定期的會員聯誼活動外，還會舉辦每年一度由體育傳媒選出的最佳男、女運動員選舉、由各大傳媒機構參與的傳媒盃籃球賽、由體育傳媒與精英運動員一同參加的體記精英嘉年華、澳門、廣東省及香港體記嘉年華；又會在大型運動會前夕組織會員到北京採訪中國隊備戰情況，以及派代表出席國際體育記者協會及亞洲體記聯盟的會員大會以及會議。
Founded in 1988, the Hong Kong Sports Press Association is the only organization run by working sports journalists from the local media in Hong Kong (this includes: TV, Radio, Newspapers, Websites, Magazines and News Agencies). It’s a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and the Asian Sports Press Union (ASPU).
The principal objectives of HKSPA are: 1. to bring together professional sports journalists in Hong Kong, while strengthening friendship, solidarity and common interests;2. to enhance the professional image of sports journalists, and to coordinate and protect the ethical and professional interests of its members;
3. to collect, collate and circulate information from sports organizations to and among its members as well as to consult and advise all sports organizing bodies in order to create the best possible media service
HKSPA has hosted numerous activities since it has founded. Apart from regular member gatherings, the association also organizes each year The Best Hong Kong Sportsman and Sportswoman Awards, the Hong Kong Media Basketball Competition, the Sports Press and Elite Athletes Carnival, the Hong Kong, Guang Dong and Macau Sports Press Carnival, among others. We also organize media tours to Beijing prior to major multi-sports Games such as the Olympics and Asian Games. Our executive members also attend regular and general meetings of the AIPS and ASPU to collect information for its members, too.
